Pictures!

Photos.. Photos photos photos! People take them every day, whether it be photos of places people have visited or whether it be selfies with friends, photos are taken all the time. In a social aspect, the three main forms of image sharing are Flickr, Tumblr and Instagram. Flickr was launched in 2004 and now has over 100 million users. Tumblr was founded in 2007 and now has over 500 million users and finally Instagram was launched in 2010 and has around 400 million users. The key success to these platforms were the social aspect, where not only photos could be shared, but they could be commented on. Furthermore, the ability to edit photos and add filters on Instagram added an extra dimension. The photo sharing aspect is important for journalists as journalists can see photos which they can’t take.

A task which I was asked to complete was to take a photo which could be considered ‘newsworthy’. I took a photo of the Christmas tree at Huddersfield train station soon after it was put up and I believe that this is newsworthy as it is approaching the festive period and the photo shows that Huddersfield is preparing for it! Furthermore, I used the editing tools on Instagram to enhance the image. Below is a link to my Instagram, which I use frequently.
