On a mild Wednesday afternoon at the Odeon cinema in Huddersfield, the red carpet was laid out and was awaiting some very special guests to the cinema, including non-other than Sir Patrick Stewart!
Lifelong Huddersfield Town fan and academy president, Sir Patrick Stewart invited over 150 guests for an exclusive screening of his new film featuring X-men star, Hugh Jackman.
Amongst those guests included several Huddersfield Town players, including captain Mark Hudson, Michael Hefele, Joe Lolley and Nahki Wells.
When speaking to the official Youtube channel of Huddersfield Town, Sir Patrick said: “Hugh said to me, if you could be screening this anywhere, where would it be? Anywhere in the world. And it floated into my head, screening for my football club, for Huddersfield Town, I couldn’t think of anything more exciting! It’s going to be very exciting to have my heroes watching a superhero movie with me.”

Directed by James Mangold and distrbuted by 20th Century Fox, Logan is the tenth installment in the X-Men series. The film is set in the year 2029 where mutants are on the bring of extinction. Formerly known as Wolverine and played by Hugh Jackman, Logan spends his days working as a chauffeur in Texas and cares for Professor X, played by Sir Patrick Stewart himself. However, a new young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.
Following the screening, defender and fan favourite Michael Hefele spoke about how meeting Sir Patrick Stewart can help him and his team mates to kick on for the run-in towards the end of the season. He added that he “Couldn’t believe this and was so shocked” following the praise which Sir Patrick lauded on Hefele’s performances for Huddersfield Town this season.
A life-long fan of the club, Sir Patrick has said that everything has been put on hold and that his agents know that they shouldn’t ask him to do any work, since he will be in Huddersfield supporting the team during the season run-in. He also heaped praise on first team manager, David Wagner, saying “The work that has been done and the success that has been achieved is not only deserved, but it is exceptional what this guy is doing.”
Let’s hope that the Huddersfield Town players can give Sir Patrick Stewart something back with some entertaining football in their battle for promotion!
